Ode to Navarathri

In southern India, the festival of Navarathri is an occasion for communities to come together in one another’s homes to celebrate the arts. It is an organic and participatory way to share art amongst neighbors, families and friends. Ragamala Dance Company’s Ode to Navarathri is a unique festival-style event that combines live performance with engagement activities specifically created for communities throughout Minnesota. This multi-part event includes:

• A 30-minute performance by Ragamala Dance Company
• A Kolam workshop, in which youth and adults learn to create traditional geometric designs made of dry rice flour on the ground
• A master class in Bharatanatyam dance for all ages and abilities
• Traditional Indian snacks

• A screening of an Ode to Navarathri documentary about how Twin Cities families celebrate Navarathri (watch the trailer)

 Ode to Navarathri invites people of all ages & backgrounds to experience a rich and vibrant South Indian festival within their own town, coming together in a unique celebration of art and community.
